CHECK LIST FOR PEOPLE SUPERVISING SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
Must have adequate knowledge of the rules and risks involved.
Must be able to take authority over participants with regards to any conditions which could result in an injury or illness.
Have appropriate clothing and footwear and check that participants also have appropriate clothing and footwear.
Have a whistle if umpiring or refereeing sports.
Be aware of non-participants in the activity/sports area.
Choose the appropriate equipment for sports and activities.
Choose the appropriate playing area, age, skill level and fitness level of participants for sports.
Check that all sport/activity equipment is in good condition before use, and after use return to appropriate place and maintain as necessary or report to camp staff.
Record all injuries in the Accident Register.
Use discretion in deciding whether the climatic and weather conditions are suitable for sport or activity.
Ensure that a qualified First Aider is on the property and locatable.
Provide or ensure provision of adequate fluids on hot days.
Monitor playing/activity times and condition/exhaustion levels of participants.
Ensure use of all safety and protective equipment is available.
Have careful supervision of moving and folding equipment.
Must define sport playing area using clearly visible physical markers, e.g. cones.
Check for removal of potentially dangerous jewellery and accessories.
CHECK LIST FOR PARTICIPANTS OF SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
Must wear suitable clothing and footwear for the sport/activity.
Must follow the supervisors instructions and must adhere to the safety rules.
Be aware of own fitness level and skill level.
If playing sports must accept and adhere to umpire/referee decisions.
Must use protective and safety equipment as directed by the supervisor.
Must remove all potentially dangerous jewellery or accessories.
